That was fabulous! And what a delight to see Warren Farrell getting the recognition he deserves.

I've read a lot of Wendy's essays, and this may be my favorite. A great job, Wendy! Thank you.

Wendy is wonderful!
What interested me the most in her column was the section dealing with NOW closing down their message board due to the fact that a family's privacy (and security) had been violated. I had visited NOW's message board many times before it had been shut down (just to remind myself of why I have no respect radical feminists), and although I had not seen this particular thread, there was one thing that I noticed: outright hatred towards males -- white males, in particular -- by some of the more "radical persons" participating in discussions.
But the funny thing was that, when NOW had announced that they would shut down their message board to the non-member population, they blamed "abusive males". It was "immature" and "patriarchal" men who were attacking the women on the board. I must admit that there were certainly some male trolls on the board that were there only to cause trouble, but that number was far less than the number of abusive radical feminists that would spen the entire day spamming the board with the typical feminist tactic: avoiding intelligent debate and attacking men personally (including those men who were respectful).
Essentially, it just goes to show you how we never get the full story from those at NOW, no matter how much those that they are allied with are in the wrong. We don't hear about the racism of radical feminists; we don't hear about the calls for a "utopian" world with maimed or dead men; and finally, we don't hear about outright REAL threats to a the security of persons (which, thankfully, Wendy has pointed out).
And yet, for the most part, we sit here and let them get away with it. He will never be the same. He will never change.

It would advance our cause, if we were to make a point of praising and celebrating the women who stand up for us. It will further undermine gender feminist hate and promote "good will toward men." Always remember, women want us to love and respect them as much as we want them to love and respect us.
As we oppose, more and more, gender feminist lies, let's extend a much deserved warmth to women who also oppose the hate. We should do this not just to the wonderful women we know on this board, Wendy and Trudy for example, but also to every good, strong woman that we meet.
How about firing off a quick email to Wendy to thank her for this kind and heartfelt essay?

It must feel good to have taken what you could use out of feminism and then denounced it so that working class women coundn't benifit from it.
But then women like Ms McElroy want working class women working in the sex industry don't they?
Keep at it and it will end up like England at the turn of last century. Poor women working as whores while the more fortunate like dear Ms McElroy going around thinking their sh*t doesn't stink. Oh but that's what you want isn't it.

I put my name on everything that I submit here and on every letter I write to the editor of our local newspaper. These trolls sign themselves as "Anonymous User." They show up here to do nothing but vent their spleens and piss all over mens' demands to be treated equally. If they had the real courage of their convictions, they would at least identify themselves uniquely, even if they used a pseudonym.

Wendy does a pretty damn good job of defending men and masculinity. Say what you like about her motivations, but the effect is that a writer for a major outlet is saying good things about men, and people are reading her column. We need to let her bosses at Fox know that we're reading and liking what we read, 'cause the opposition is probably out there writing their fair share of anti-Wendy hatemail.
Thanks again Wendy.

Please cite a source where Ms. McElroy ever said any such thing. She HAS said that women should have the CHOICE to work in the sex industry if that's what they want. Whatever happened to, "My body, my choice?" If I have control over my body, should I not be permitted to rent it out if I wish?
BTW, before you accuse me of being some overprivileged little princess who got a Beemer on her 16th birthday, I'm working-class too, always have been.

TO WHOM STARTED THIS POST:
If you want your comments and concerns to be taken seriously then as a bare minimum I expect a logical argument and not a flame post only to retreat behind the anonymity of the web. Finally, as a matter of respect to everyone here a name would be nice. Other men and women post here and disagree with us and they are not afraid to put a name to their words.
For everyone else:
I am guessing that this "anonymous user" has a very limited knowledge of feminist theory and self-righteous definition of feminist.
The fact is Ms. McElroy is not the first woman or feminist to argue that the porn or the sex industry is infact empowering for women. It is a way for women to reclaim and express their sexuality instead of hiding it behind closed doors.
The real problem is people like this that continue the puritanical belief that sex is sin.
(I have about a dozen "colorful metaphors" running through my head to describe these people but I will refrain from stooping to their intellectual level.)
Finally I will have to agree with the rest of the people so far and say if anyone lacks the moral integrity to put a name to their words they are not worth serious attention to their concerns.

I won't use my name because we have been advised that it's not a good idea to give out our names and email addresses on this site. I'll just use the name "Troll" since that's what you all refer to us as anyway.
Tony, I truly feel sorry for you if you think that the sex industry is "empowering" to females and allowing themselves to express their "sexuality". None of the sex workers I know or have known have thought of it in that way. In fact most of them take drugs to help them "switch off" rather than "swith on". How come almost all sex workers come from working class backgrounds or are addicted to drugs?
You're obviously one of those men who have allowed yourself to believe that teenage girls enjoy having sex with middle aged men.
Why isn't there any mention of the number of times these girls are raped by their "fans" and how many of them now have Hep B and Herpes as a result of their "empowerment", not to mention the unlucky ones who now have HIV as a result of their "empowerment".
By the way Tony, females are quite capable of exploring their sexuality without working in the sex industry. You do know Tony that the females are only acting don't you?

"Troll" is a term used to refer to individuals who post messages on sites like this with no other purpose than to illicit a tremendous backlash response. You can disagree with whatever view you perceive to be the majority here and still *not* be a troll.
As for your comments about pornography, I completely disagree with you. Give me proof about your "rape by fans" and the rate of HIV infection of adult film star, and perhaps I will consider your opinion.
Without some kind of evidence or backup, you're not going to get very far making your point in this forum, or on Wendy's site, either, for that matter.

So, then, to whom were you responding? The talk here has been about pornography. Also, how do you equate stripping with prostitution? Stripping is entirely different. As well, male strippers with female audiences are much more sexual than female strippers with male audiences.
Did you know that male audiences are not allowed to touch female strippers, while female audiences may fondle (and jerk off) male strippers on-stage?
Women who strip are incredibly protected from those in their audiences who might abuse them. Too bad the same cannot be said for their male counterparts.

Oh my god Claire you mean a woman would CHOOSE to have sex for money? That cann't be true! Feminism has told us that no self respecting liberated woman would make that choice.
::dripping with scarcasm::
FYI: JUGGS magazine (yes that "porn" mag)is owned and operated by a woman who believes in the liberation of sexuality for women.

Speaking of Juggs, there's also Danni Ashe, owner of the very successful Danni's Hard Drive. She's the only person in history to make the cover of the Wall Street Journal AND Juggs. Gotta love it!
Here's another thought. If str8 porn demeans women, does gay porn demean men?

Nah. Gay porn demeans women, too, because one of the men has to take on the role of "woman" for intercourse.
For that matter, perhaps masturbation demeans a man's hand... whoops. Sorry. Getting off topic.
