I can't decide if it was really lighthearted or just sorta vacuous... wannabe jocks have to be the most un-liberated of men (IMHO) and if ESPN didn't exist maybe men would be out there organizing, protesting, and all. But probably not. However, I can't say I'd think much of a woman who aids and abets, and generally hangs around with guys who say "dat". Like she didn't expect them to be sorta Neanderthalish?
In "The Decline of Males", Lionel Tiger writes about how the takeover by women has caused men to retreat into three male-exclusive arenas: porn, drugs, and sports ("the male soap opera"): "In these milieu men try to replace what they experienced before or what they think their ancestor males experienced before them. All three have burgeoned into huge businesses. They have grown and prospered at the same time as the experiences they mimic have been curtailed."
Ok, maybe I'm being a bit rough. I really just hope ESPN doesn't ever drop its coverage of downhill skiing and drag racing!!

You say that like it's a BAD thing.

Actually, I think men have discovered the only safe place for them in TV these days is ESPN, and even that is getting iffy, what with the WNBA. I don't object for a second to women's sports, but I do not find them especially interesting to watch, with notable excpetions (like the Women's World Cup soccer games last year). Sports programs, the games themselves, not necessarily the pre/post game shows, are about the only places where there is little or no rampant misandry.
