Male suicide

You seem to have the impression that most male suicides are caused by divorce and separation from children.
There never seems to be any mention made of the fact that the number of men suffering from mental illnesses like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder(manic/depression)far outweigh the number of women with these disorders. A lot of men with these illnesses suicide and I know that in the case of Bipolar disorder the risk of suicide rises with the male's age.
Why aren't you men doing anything to help these men if you're so concerned about male suicide?

What do you want us to do?

I don't see anything on this web site which tries to deny that men can have mental illness, or anything which claims that men only kill themselves after divorces.

My troll scanner is picking up a reading...it's not conclusive, but there could be one in this vicinity.

My troll alarm is going off as well. However, I *would* like to respond to this particular individual's complaint. Longtime readers of this site know full well that I have discussed (sometimes at length) my own battle with depression. Although my depression is not as serious as bipolar disorder or schizophrenia, it has, in the past, caused me to consider fatal alternatives to facing everyday life.

As such, I have posted a variety of articles about men and depression and men's health over the past few months. Although my own depression is not a result of family breakdown, I can assure you that family breakdown IS a catalyst for many other men who consider suicide as a way out. It may not be the root cause, but it IS part of the problem.

Also, men who are depressed are more reluctant to seek counseling than women, because psychologists and psychiatrists have been more open to treating women, to allowing women to express their hurt, while men STILL must fight the "suck it up and tough it out" attitude when we have problems.

It took me two long months of searching before I found counseling which I felt suited me. I am fortunate enough to have progressed to a point where I don't need those visits as often.

I can also tell you that I am far from the only man who visits this Web site who has experienced depression and obtained treatment for it. It is a difficult battle, and I don't think anyone here is denying it.

Obviously, you believe the above post intends to blame women for men's suicides, and you couldn't be further off the mark. If anything, family breakdown creates a sense of failure in men, because men are still EXPECTED to become fathers, husbands, and providers. If that doesn't happen, well, then we're life failures, aren't we?

No, we're not. But society at this point in time tells us we are.

End of rant.

"Why aren't you men doing anything to help these men if you're so concerned about male suicide?"

The whole point of the men's movement is to help all men, including "these men." Throughout recent history, one of the major problems has been men believing feminists when the feminists claim they want equality. Men and good women are waking up to the fact that mainstream feminism is a hate movement and we have to work outside of it, and fight it, for the sake of egalitarianism and helping men who need help.

We men need to wake up to the fact that we must start forming all-male organizations, both professional and non-professional, so we can start truly helping each other. This Website is part of the egalitarian movement. We are helping "these men."
