The Seat of Temperance (in Men)

Science krob4399 submitted this link to a UK Telegraph story which describes the discovery of a "seat of temperance" in men's brains, which is used to censor sexual drive. Apparently this part of the brain has evolved over time, as it is much smaller and less developed in primates than in human beings. krob4399 thought it was interesting to contrast this discovery with this article, which is about pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder, somewhat the opposite of the "seat of temperance" with women.

Just in men?

Maybe I missed this as I read through the article, but is this definitely something that exists only in men's brains, or is it just that they only tested men? Regardless, I think it's important proof that the human male actually is wired differently from a chimpanzee - since there are those who seem to believe the differences between the two are mostly superficial.

The PMDD article is, well, interesting. Of course I couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at the paragraph: ""PMDD affects marital relationships and the ability to do mothering-type activities," says Dr. David Baron... "It makes it difficult to do the many, many things women have to do."

You know, even though there are far more serious issues for a men's activist to worry about than piously feminist doctors, it is somehow the little backhanded cracks like that which get under my skin the most.
