Women's eNews: Kids Need Money, Not Men
posted by Nightmist on Sunday November 04, @10:44AM
from the fatherhood dept.
Fatherhood Women's eNews' attack on fatherhood continues with this commentary by Cindy Richards, who claims that fathers are not necessary and contribute nothing to the child rearing process, and that fathers may simply be replaced by wallets. Oh, and by the way, the editor's note at the top of this story says that this piece is the "first in a series." I wonder what other BS they have planned?

Women's eNews is copyrighted by the NOW legal defense and education fund. I realize we really don't want to spend much time troubling ourselves with e-mailing THESE folks, but, just in case, here's how to send feedback to people involved:

The Editors: editors@womensenews.org

Comments on Our Daily Lives: ourdailylives@womensenews.org

I sent one e-mail to the editors with only three words in it: "Man hating bigots."

Heh. Here's the response I received from Victoria Graham, editor of Women's eNews. I congratulated her on using the correct annotative form of the word "pithy" (which is often misused these days)and informed her that her addressing of me as one of her "readers" was an insult. ;)

OK, OK. Sometimes I like to pick fights.

Dear reader:

This is Victoria Graham, managing editor.

Thank you for your pithy comment.
To what exactly does it refer?
May we post it on our public letters to the editors page--with a notation
about the article (we presume it's an article)to which you refer?

You may post it yourself: Go to the bottom of the page, click on 'letters'
and fill in the template that appears. Then click 'submit'

Or I would be glad to do it for you.

Let's Dump Mom Instead!

Once a woman has given birth to a child she should be discarded like so much broken eggshell. Naturally she must be made to pay for the child she has brought into the world, but beyond that financial contribution no further input into the child's life is necessary. All the child needs is love and an adequate standard of living, both of which can be supplied by the father, given the right support. To enable the father to continue working after the arrival of his child (preferably a son; daughters are rubbish), there must be adequate child-care facilities, either at his place of work or nearby, plus other out-of-work-hours care to enable the father to have some time to himself without the need for a mother. As many mothers are a risk to their children, eliminating them from the home can only be of benefit. A father's love is all a child really needs.

Of course, it's possible that my tongue was in my cheek when I wrote the above. The article contains much of the usual anti-father crap we've all heard before. Feminists do seem to view the father as alien to the mother-child 'unit'. There appears to be no conception that the father might love his children or that they could love him. I guess love is alien to feminists.

There were a few bright points in the article. For instance, I liked what Deborah Weinstein, of The Children's Defense Fund, said about marriages breaking up because the father doesn't have a good, steady source of income. Rather than throwing him out on the street the remedy would be job training and economic opportunity - that's a positive solution. I didn't like the remark about helping fathers to be involved in their children's lives 'unless it poses a risk to anybody,' because it implied that only fathers can be a risk to anybody. Some people actually believe that.

I wonder what these women who want to eliminate men from family life want for their own sons when they grow up. It beats me how people can be so mean.

I don't believe this, an idiot woman decides to put herself in poverty and drag her kids with her and then says "look at me and the kids we're worse off than before!" this is what Dan Amernus calls the "mutilated beggar syndrome" where by the more a parent mutilates a kid the more likely they are to get more money begging. Sound familiar?

I'm half tempted to call child support "braindead woman support" this is the best reason yet for single father custody.

I might have been more offended by the article, but I couldn't get past the wide-eyed incredulity caused by the slogan at the top of the page: "What news looks like when women matter." And all I can say is - thank the Lord Women's eNews exists to single-handedly point the world toward the undiscovered, unappreciated Eighth Wonder of the World that is the female gender! Otherwise, I might have never known those lady creatures existed!

I am hoping you are not including in this "idiot" comment, women - or men, certainly, for that matter - who are fleeing abusive partners or perhaps partners with serious alcohol or drug addicts? There are a lot of reasons why marriages break up, not just because one partner is bored or because hubby isn't bringing home enough bacon.
