LA Takes "Deadbeat" Parent Tax Refunds For Child Support

News This story in the LA Daily News highlights, in my mind, the biggest problem with the child support industry: it is, indeed, an industry. To that end, here's a highlight from the major points of one of the sources in the article: "I think it's a big boost," said Trom, who noted the money will either go to reimburse welfare or directly to families. Reimburse welfare? Interestingly, though, the article does not use the term "deadbeat dad." It uses "deadbeat parent" instead. Is this sensitivity to men from the news staff, or simply political correctness?

The article does a good job of diverting attention from the fact that Counties such as L.A. make a profit from CS collections. This whole line about paying back Welfare is nothing more than moving the profits from one pocket to the other.

One interesting but not surprising note was the Attorney stating clients aren't getting their checks in a timely fashion. Of course this has everything to do with putting the money in the gerneral funds and gaining interest off it. I've noticed on my CS payments that the only money accounted for was the money illegally seized from tax returns yet none of my regular payments being credited during the entire year.

The whinning that "it's not much but it's something" crap is to add more fuel to the fire as they seek additional support for future legislation that will impose even more barbaric techniques for collecting CS, which some have suggested, may lead to forced labor camps.

As far as using deadbeat Parent as opposed to the one specific to men. The writer is just exercising common sense. I give zero crediblity to anyone that uses the term "Deadbeat*ad" as I view it as a derogatory statement equal to the "N" word or the "C" word.
