Study Blames Male Behavior For Increased Female HIV Risk

Masculinity This report on Excite News attempts to remove responsibility for a woman's own sexual choices and place them squarely on the shoulders of her male partners. Men who are bisexual and who do not use protection, the study claims, are directly responsible for an increase in HIV among women. Their solution is to include men in education about condom use. I, for one, had no idea we were being excluded.

This "blame the male for unsafe sex" syndrome is so tiring. I remember once, just after a very friendly conversation with some activists for safe sex education in Denver, I was about to sign their petition, pen in hand. Then I caught the part about how males are primarily responsible for condom use. I handed the pen back and refused to sign, asking why women can't buy and carry condoms as easily as a male can, and why they can't say no to sex without a condom. I'll never forget the look on their faces, like "gee, uh, .... duhhhh."

Girls 14-19 represent 72% of the STD infected folks. Seem that lack of responsiblity and judgement on the girls part is the biggest problem.
