Paula Poundstone Charged With Child Endangerment

News Nightmist writes "This article on Fox News gives little detail on the charges against Paula Poundstone, who has been arrested for "three counts of committing a lewd act on a girl under the age of 14 on May 19 and June 6, as well as endangering two other girls and two boys on June 6, Deputy District Attorney Gina Satriano said in a statement. She could face a maximum of 13 years and four months in prison if convicted of all charges." It is interesting to me that in most cases of child endangerment involving males, the charges and details of those charges are laid out in black and white in the story. Here (even though police reports are public record in most states) we are told the D.A. isn't releasing details... interesting."

Well, I agree with you nightmist, but apparently, they aren't even telling Pounstone the details of the charges.

Well, well. So now even women accused of lewd and/or sexual crimes are being denied due process. That's even MORE interesting.

Fox News is now reporting that the alleged victims in the case are the children in Poundstone's own care. No other details have been released

I believe for years women's crimes, particularly against children, have been "censored" by the press - idealization of women - it's been far more likely that men's crimes are reported. But in the last couple of years I have noted much more reporting of women's crimes. I believe this represents a change in newspaper and tv policies.

On ABCNews.com, you can read this story, which also provides a link to a PDF file of the complaint against Paula Poundstone. While the complaint does not go into specifics, the language hints that Poundstone is accused of "committing a lewd and lascivious act upon and with the body and certain parts and members thereof...with the intent of arousing, appealing to, and gratifying the lust, passions, and sexual desires of the said defendant(s) and the said child."

There are three counts of this charge (which, in this case, means three alleged instances of this crime against one alleged victim, Jane Doe #1).

Poundstone is also charged with child abuse in which she allegedly "willfully and unlawfully, under circumstances likely to produce great bodily harm and death, injure, cause, and permit a child, JANE DOE #2, JANE DOE#3, JOHN DOE #1, and JOHN DOE #2, to suffer and to be inflicted with unjustifiable physical pain and mental suffering, and, having the care and custody of said child, injure, cause, and permit the person and health of said child to be injured and did willfully cause and permit said child to be placed in such situation that his/her person and health was/were endangered."

She faces one count of the child abuse charge, totaling four counts outlined in the felony complaint.

If this goes to trial, the details of what she is actually alleged to have done will come out then. Otherwise, the American public may never know the actual circumstances which led to her arrest.
