Man Leaves Prison After 10 Years in False Accusation of Rape

False Accusations Yahoo! News reported that Jimmy Williams of Ohio is receiving a new trial for the rape of a 12 year old girl, who is now a grown woman and has recanted the accusation. Williams has always maintained his innocence through the years, and will finally get to be with his 10 year old son that he has never been able to spend time with. It is possible that Williams could sue for $25k for each year he was imprisoned, for a total of $250,000. Imagine if that money could be put into an organization to lobby for the rights of accused men?

This newbyte raises a good rallying point for men's organizations. Justice for men who are wrongfully convicted and especially falsely accused of rape.

Such activist groups could campaign for the falsely accused to get at least $100,000 for each year in prison. Also, men's groups could campaign for the sentence imposed on a falesly accused man to be handed to the false accuser.

I agree 100%, although I doubt that we'll ever see those kinds of punishments handed out for perjury and slander.

This is one case in which I like the Chinese justice system: if you go to court and lie in order to convict someone, and your lie is found out, then you get the sentence that was (or would have been) handed down for the offence. So, the maximum penality for perjury could be death, depending upon what you're lying about! Harsh? Perhaps, but fair. And for all of the indignant women out there, I might add that I side with the Scots on the idea that the lie has to be proven. So, there are really three outcomes to a court case: proven guilt, guilt not proven, and proven perjury.

Of course, the downside would be that under this system if you lied to put someone in prison and got away with it, you're not ever going to come forward and admit it later! The only reason that women are coming forward and admitting that they lied is that they know that nothing will happen to them as a result.

Finally, I 100% agree that this is a great rallying point for the men's movement. It's completely uncontroversial: who could agree with keeping innocent men in prison, or not compensating innocents incarcerated?
