Going from one feminist discussion board to another over the years, and being banned from all but the iFeminist board, I've learned a lot about where feminists are weakest and what charges they are most sensitive too. This charge that "feminists don't care" is where they are weakest and where challenges cause most resentment.
You only have to open a feminist book or read some of their propaganda a little to see many references to gay issues, racial issues, children, the environment... and other things that all go to show how 'wonderful' feminists are, as if by associaing with genuinely needy groups/issues some legitimacy will rub off, or perhaps it's to show how politically correct they are. They desparately want you to know they are good people.
Naturally like many upper/middle class white movements they are often out of touch, and for example black feminists set up their own movement/label; "Womanism" (and we were recently discussing racist roots of the early women's movement). However I think that laughing at feminist discomfort over Roe's statements is a bit unfair. Is the men's movement better at truly representing black or poorer men's issues?
Its also missing the bigger picture here because the fundamental evil of feminism is their treatment of men, not the poor or blacks. Now men have never been a good source of sympathy to anyone but I still think this is any feminist's weak point; an attack on their morality. For all their 'reclaiming' of the word "bitch" for example most of these women would rather die than have people think badly of them.
There's still a sort of verbal chivalry around. Men just can't call women on the carpet. I really think it needs to be done though. It would have a big effect. These women who support hatred of men need to be shamed. Get ready for the fire-works when you do.
