Women To Be Assessed For Combat Roles In England

Inequality The UK Times reports that the Defence Ministry in England is preparing field trials for mixed-gender infantry units to determine whether women should be allowed in combat positions in the military. Read the article here. The main reason this is being done is to give women better opportunities to compete for senior positions in the military, but this would also help to balance the rights and responsibilities women have in the armed forces. Considering this is a controversial topic, why not discuss it in our comment boards? What do you think, would this be a step forward or backward for the men's movement?

I agree that women in combat help to balance the rights and responsibilities of those who choose a military career. There is no mention of women being assigned involuntarily to combat or of being drafted.

The article seems to imply that the UK is going down the same road as the US. That women have rights but only the responsibilities they choose to accept, while men are assigned the responsibilities that no one else wants (with no right to refuse).

Does this really help to balance overall rights and responsibilities?

If a real war starts, they will soon find excuses

for avoiding combat.
