Women-only ride-sharing service opening in Washington, DC

Article here. Excerpt:

'Safr, a new women-only ride-sharing service, focused on keeping women safe is coming to D.C. this autumn.

Come fall, the service, which will be available in cities including D.C., Boston, Orlando, Atlanta, Dallas, and San Francisco will aim to provide safe transportation for women. As of right now, Safr has only launched in Boston.

According to a release from the company, Safr was created "in light of the recent sexual assault allegations on drivers of other ride-sharing companies."

Safr states that drivers working for the company are personally vetted and will have to go through comprehensive background checks in both criminal and motor vehicle history.

Riders can also expect an in-ride security features that will ensure that they get to their final destination safely. If there are issues, immediate help is sent out.

The company plans to pay drivers more than the industry standard so there is an incentive to provide top service.'

It's a gimmick. Just uber-(LOL, had to!)-vetted drivers and added security features. No reason why IMJ men can't also be riders. Bet there are men who feel a little uneasy about being driven around by some STRANGE MAN, arggghhh!!! :)

Just checked the Safr web site. Indeed, drivers can be of both sexes (or is that *all* sexes these days) BUT the passenger (WOMEN-ONLY!!!!!) can choose which gender/sex/etc. the driver should be. This means that if there are no female drivers in the area, the passenger is SOL and has to walk to wherever she would prefer not to walk to.

Let's see. Guaranteeing female-only passengers may in fact encourage more women to be drivers. That is possible, given that I bet a fair number of women who would be rideshare drivers at least as a side-gig don't want to be alone with some STRANGE MAN in the car. Though given the driver is in fact driving the car I rather think even men with EVIL thoughts on their minds might be inclined to avoid freaking out or fucking with the driver of the car. That often leads to things like... accidents. Generally while I am tempted to be EVIL when alone with a woman a mere 40% of the time myself, I exercise EXTRAORDINARY self-control when I am alone with a woman driving me around if for no other reason than I prefer her not to be annoyed, upset, etc., when my life is in her pretty little hands.

But otherwise... yes.... I would have very EVIL thoughts and intentions and maybe, I dunno, sometimes, I might just LOSE ALL SELF-CONTROL and turn into the Mr. Hyde that indeed ALL men are when alone with women, without exception, even the gay ones, and... oh I dunno... I might do something like... tell her she is looking kinda frumpy today and OMG, dear, just WHO did your hair and can you sue them?

Yes. An untamed beast lurks within my soul, buhh hahhahahha!

Mmm.. never mind that men are MORE likely to be victims of violence than we are. By both other men and by women.

I have mentioned in other items on MANN about the listening services in Japan now wherein for around $10/hr. you can "rent" a middle-aged man to just sit there and listen to you yammer. There are also now cuddle services, outcall so Japanese women don't feel embarrassed at going to a place with a sign that reads "Cuddle Service". In re the listening service, most buyers of it are younger Japanese women. The drill is they meet this guy someplace public like a coffee shop and they sit there while she tells him anything. His job? Listen and say nothing unless she specifically asks for feedback. Some of the renters are men too, older men usually in their 70s. But most are 20-x women.

OK, so to America. A rideshare service for women only that promises to make the riding experience as reliably safe as humanly possible. Drivers are vetted with microscopes. In person. A mere crim. check and DMV check isn't good enough. Further, they have panic buttons in the cars or on the app. Next I suppose will be mandatory cabin cameras feeding the trip real-time to a central monitoring station.

Hmm, wonder why they don't have that already?

I suspect it's because the rider would like to be alone with her driver.

Yes I think what we have here is a stealth companionship app. I predict most riders will likely choose men as drivers and not women. Hence Safr allows *gasp* men to be drivers too. If it were about nothing but damn-near-certain-security vs. EVIL SEXUAL PREDATIONS, I imagine they would allow only women to be drivers. (But then again, after seeing "She Stole My Voice", I am not so sure you can ever be sure.)

Notice Safr pays the drivers more. Both Lyft and Uber take the "drop money" on each ride, leaving only about half or less than the total collected going to the driver. Hence, not as many Lyft/Uber drivers out there as both services would like. But they have only their greedy selves to blame. Now Safr says they will pay drivers MORE than what Uber/Lyft pays. Hmm, wonder why. Is it in compensation for the driver having to listen to his passenger's complaints about life and the world like the Japanese guys do? Just a possibility. I mean, most guys would rather play poker with a bunch of angry Klingons than do that. But pay them more... hmmm, they might...

Just speculation. Hell does the driver profile include a list of his favorite movies, multi-angle pics of him, full-body pics, info about his parents, pictures of any children he has? Marital status? Do single drivers get paid a bonus for being single?

Is this a dating service re-packaged for modern times, one wherein women pay extra for background checks and personal vetting of potential dates, err, I mean, the drivers? I once saw an article about how young Taiwanese women were paying lit. 1,000s of dollars just to go to arranged parties where lots of foreign non-ethnically Asian men were in attendance -- guys from Australia, Germany, some from the US, etc.

The world is getting weirder by the minute.
