'It feels less like legitimate concern on behalf of the strong for the weak, and more like a vendetta against men in general. Less a positive affirmation of the rights of women and more an attempt to eradicate one sex completely.

I may be the last of a dying breed, but I like men. Every bit as much as I like women, in some cases more. And it saddens me to think of the stupendously moustachioed actor William H. Macy saying on Sunday night at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in Hollywood: 'It's hard to be a man these days. I think a lot of us feel like we're under attack and that we need to apologise, and perhaps we do.'

But also because so few of those who ought to be making the case for sanity — politicians, commentators, influencers — seem to possess a scintilla of the courage and common sense required to push back against this snowballing madness.
