Maine Democrats at ‘Values and Vision’ gathering erupt in laughter at white male suicide

I have heard it said that indifference is, practically speaking, worse than hate, because when you are hated, at least someone is paying attention to you, and there is a chance that the hatred can be replaced by something better. When others are indifferent to you, there is no future relationship because they don't even care to have one. Sort of like cars driving over ants on a road. The drivers are utterly indifferent to the ants. They mean less than nothing to the drivers because the drivers don't even notice the ants even to make an evaluation of their value to them.

But in this case, I think indifference would, practically speaking, be better. The irony of the fact that it's a middle-aged white man doing the talking aside, what is significant is that he just plain despises an entire class of people based on their indelible characteristics combined with their age (though I suspect he'd be fine with young white men offing themselves, too). He is fine with such people not only dying prematurely but by their own hand. "Hooray!" is his reaction. He is of course too stupid to realize that these same people cheering him on would also be cheering him on if he pulled out a loaded gun, put it to his head, and pulled the trigger.

People are naturally very social animals. It is an evolutionary advantage. We survive much more successfully and also thrive by valuing one another's lives and forming personal bonds with one another. Cooperation yields much better results overall than do individual efforts. Humanity managed to survive and reach the apex of the food chain based on three things, largely: high intelligence, strong social nature, and high fecundity. Abrogate any of these three characteristics and you are on the outs. One might say a person failing at any of these three species traits is a kind of defective individual relative to our species' apparent primary purpose: propagation. Ask any biologist and he or she will tell you: the whole raison d'etre for any species appears to be its own continuation.

People like this fellow I consider to be evolutionarily defective. He supports aims contrary to two of three of these characteristics, namely, sociability and fecundity. (Dead men can't reproduce.) The lack of sociability is pretty obvious. And I rather suspect he is short on a critical IQ point count, too. After all, how intelligent a person can you be when you cheer on the premature deaths of people you describe in such a way to include yourself?

That the crowd laughed at his statement is quite telling. How any man (white in particular, but really, any man) can still be a Democrat these days is utterly beyond me. I'd almost go so far as to say that any man who identifies as one falls into the same category as this guy: evolutionarily defective. But making such a strong, sweeping generalization is hazardous. The possibility for inaccuracy is simply too great. Still, I do wonder how a man can still be a Democrat these days. SMH.

I saw this article and video too, and it's awful what this man said. Plus, a lot of the white men he disparages aren't privileged like he says as they're often less educated working class men who are often unemployed and poor.

What a disgrace.
