'Exhibit Unbiased Chivalry

Boys should be thought to acknowledge the difference between men and women. At this point, their female counterparts are shooting for equality, but it does not mean they should stop opening the doors.

"We need to teach boys that chivalrous behavior is an acknowledgment of difference-not inequality-between the sexes," Dorothy Dorfman, a psychotherapist, tells Parenting. "Convey sentiments of politeness and civility, not a perception of weakness. Chivalry and girls achieving great things are separate issues."'

Chivalry is like forgiveness in Christian teachings: it's something one person can do for another but it can't demanded by the other. Neither chivalry nor forgiveness is an obligation one can demand from another. The offended person can make the choice to forgive and a man can choose to be chivalrous to a woman.

The problem today--and with this article--is that chivalry becomes a demand placed upon men. Too often that means we're expected to put up with crap from women no one should have to put up with. Even as a woman does her best to destroy our lives, we should just "man up" and be "chivalrous."
