Girls Charged With Animal Cruelty as Burned Cat Clings to Life

This story caught my attention because I'm a cat owner. Excerpt:

'A 3-month-old cat is clinging to life at a Sonoma County animal hospital after having been set on fire by two teenage girls who now face charges of animal cruelty.

The kitten, named Adam by hospital staff, has undergone two surgeries and had its tail and the tips of its ears amputated. The skin on its back was burned off in the attack, leaving nothing but raw tissue.

"The degree of injury is greater than our normal level of trauma that we care for," said Katheryn Hinkle, the head veterinarian and owner of the Animal Hospital of Cotati. "He's our most critical patient, and we're watching him constantly."'

Drunk Mother Murdered Baby With Microwave

Story here. Excerpt:

'Investigators looked throughout China Arnold's home to find whatever fatally burned the woman's infant, finally identifying a kitchen appliance, a detective said.

"That microwave was the murder weapon," detective Michael Galbraith testified Thursday at a hearing to determine if Arnold will stand trial on aggravated murder charges in the death of her month-old daughter, Paris Talley.

Arnold, 26, has pleaded not guilty in Paris' death on Aug. 30, 2005. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

Galbraith testified that Arnold told him during his initial questioning: "If I hadn't gotten so drunk, I guess my baby wouldn't have died."'

Oops: Surgeon severs infant boys penis during botched circumcision

Article here. Excerpt:

'The family of an infant boy filed a lawsuit Wednesday against a doctor and a Mattoon hospital claiming negligence in a circumcision that apparently severed the boy’s penis.'

I wonder what the parents will say when the boy is older and asks why they risked his health, and the only answers they'll have are "we wanted you to look like your father", or "we thought everyone did it".

Misandrist Essay at its Worst

Just look at this, will you.... good heavens, the man is practically ready to implode with self-hatred! Excerpt:

'Use of science and technology proceeds along pathways chosen by man, detached from feminine sensibilities. Harmony eludes a male-dominated world that does not empower women. Women do climb the corporate ladder — we bestow superficial status on them — but behind this spurious camouflage, crimes against women proliferate.

Today, mankind attempts to explore galaxies and contemplates travel at the speed of light, while our women are still not safe on the streets, and many, not even at home. How is it possible to use terms such as "civilized" and "evolved" for our species? All our good intentions seem a lie. The truth? One-half of us are hurt by the other.

Two attacks, only one called "Domestic Assault"

The first story is a woman assaulting her boyfriend with a baseball bat, and dousing him with lighter fluid and threatening to light him on fire. The second is a boyfriend that choked his girlfriend and automatically the "Domestic Assault" card comes out. In both articles, killing is mentioned, but they word the first article with "threatened to burn him to death" and the second they say “Threatened to kill her".

It's no wonder we can't get accurate stats on female-initiated violence. The news is just too biased. Excerpts:

Story 1:
'A Foley woman was arrested after sheriff's deputies said she doused her live-in boyfriend with lighter fluid and tried to set him on fire.
Jessica Bressie, 30, of the 200 block of Burr Oak, Foley, was charged with first-degree assault and was being held today on $50,000 cash-only bail in the Lincoln County Jail.'

Sign of the times: "Domestic affections" strained with "interesting" consequences

Lionel Tiger in The Decline of Males quoted a 19th century commentator, Charles J. Fox, in which he said that the rulers of the time had implemented policies that contributed to the "rapid decay of the domestic affections among the lower orders of society." Today the classist part of his observation would be criticized, but the general observation held then as it does now. Chalk this one up to that phenomenon in today's world.

What is perhaps most noticeable about the article is the way in which the president of the company openly states he seeks to support men's happiness. This is rare. One may dislike or find distasteful in one or more ways the subject matter of the article, but no one can deny that what is happening here is indeed... happening here. Excerpt:

Duke case: Why Collin Finnerty, etc.?

Story here.

Both Finnerty (Loyola College) and Seligmann (Brown University) have done the right thing. They've flushed their invite back to Duke right down the toilet! Excerpt:

"Collin Finnerty was declared innocent of bogus kidnapping, rape and sexual offense charges by North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper and is moving on to Loyola of Maryland, where he should be beyond the reach of the scoundrels at Duke and in Durham, North Carolina.
...
There's no doubt that former Durham County, North Carolina District Attorney Michael B. Nifong should have announced after investigation and receipt of the DNA test results that he had no case against any of the team members instead of manipulating grand jurors into issuing unwarranted indictments against the Three targeted by Ms. Mangum.

But there's also no doubt that what Ms. Mangum did should be investigated and why she did it should be determined.

Such an investigation may uncover a conspiracy to obtain enormous sums of money from the families of the Three."

"Make room for a different daddy"

Article here. Excerpt:

"The numbers tell the story: Fathers do 67 percent more housework and 50 percent more child care than 25 years ago, according to surveys by the Families and Work Institute, a nonprofit organization based in New York.

Decades ago, men responded to fatherhood by honing their ability to support a family. Now, more are making career sacrifices and adjusting their work days as they try to reconcile the roles of provider and parent.

Yet they don’t always find sympathy at their jobs. Bosses and colleagues who nod knowingly when a new mother scales back may react with surprise when a new father wants to do the same. And the biggest career-oriented rewards, many experts say, still go to those with few home duties, who can devote their full energy to work."

UK: Men left to clear up detritus of disaster of feminism

“The detritus left in the wake of 30 years of feminism is considerable, an international disaster. And, as with most other disasters, such as 9/11, it falls mainly to men to clear up the mess.”
