CMT Honors Only Women at Annual Artists of the Year Show

Article here. Excerpt:

'CMT is changing their Artists of the Year show to honor only women, including Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Kelsea Ballerini, Maren Morris, Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman of Little Big Town and Hillary Scott of Lady Antebellum.

The move comes as female artists in the genre have been outspoken about the lack of opportunities for them. Women have been shut out of nominations for major country awards, such as CMA's entertainer of the year category for two years in a row, and men overwhelmingly dominate country radio charts.

CMT senior vice president of music and talent Leslie Fram said she hopes dedicating the entire show to women in country music — past, present and future — will spark a "much-needed change in the industry." The show airs on CMT on Oct. 17 at 8 p.m. Eastern/Pacific.'

Most country music is gynocentric garbage.

This awards show has simply exposed the genre for what it truly is--a simultaneous male bashing and female butt kissing spree.

Country music used to be good. Gene Autry, etc., The Eagles helped bring it into the late 20th C. Damn they were good too. Then it got... bad. And after it got bad, it attracted female singers who saw their opportunity to take over a genre. Now they sing about fucking up men with a twang in the background and that's about it.

Reminds me of hip-hop. Hip-hop started as rap music which was kind of fun. It was a celebration of the fact that one could not sing. You just had some background beats and you talked loud in a kind of cadence. But like most people you couldn't sing and you knew it. It was fun. Then it morphed into hip-hop which is complete garbage.

But arguably today's music in general is pretty much garbage. TV is bad by and large too. MeTV is doing well for a reason. Sales of pop-rock from any time before 2000 seem to be doing well -- or at least pirated downloads anyway.

Well really good music is pretty much gone now except or unless you 1) have the real talent to make it and 2) are OK with making money off of live performances. No one is paying for recordings anymore because they don't have to. Being a rock star despite the perks is a lot of hard work. The reward for those who succeed used to be a lot of money on top of loads of girls to bang. Now the financial incentive to put your all into it is gone. Had the Beatles or the Led Zeppelin lads been born in this era, they never would have gotten very far nor would they have tried. That is because gettin' rich from music isn't possible anymore unless you are ready to do so by live performances and to draw those crowds you have to be more of an entertainer than a musician.

I wouldn't say that "music is dead". I would say that it has entered a period of creative starvation. A kind of musical Dark Ages. One day it'll emerge from it but not for quite some time. Not before anyone reading this croaks.
