UK: Scientists edge closer to creating a male pill that turns off sperm - without any side effects, study finds

'Scientists have edged one step closer to creating a male pill, new research suggests.

Thirty hours after infusing male macaques with a compound known as EP055, their sperm were unable to move, a study found.

Lead author Dr Michael O'Rand, from the University of North Carolina, said: 'Simply put, the compound turns-off the sperm's ability to swim, significantly limiting fertilization capabilities.'

None of the monkeys suffered side effects, which is thought to be due to EP055 having no effect on male hormones, according to the researchers.

Most female birth-control pills contain a mix of the hormones oestrogen and progesterone, which can cause weight gain, erratic moods and nausea.

In addition, all of the monkeys' sperm were moving as normal within three weeks, suggesting the treatment is reversible, the research adds.'

Wonder how long it'll take for feminists and social conservatives together in unholy alliance to get this effort shut down, too.

Looking through the comments on this article, I found the expected shut downs.

"And is any woman going to trust a man is telling the truth...After all, as the saying goes it will be the woman that ends up carrying the baby."

They just don't get it. It's not about women, it's about men. Giving men control of their own reproductive events. Who cares what women think about it or who they trust. They just hate not having complete control.

women's groups have and will always find ways to throw a wrench into anything threatening their monopoly on where men get their sex and are forced to deposit their $$. in most places married men aren't even allowed to present d.n.a. evidence of her ultimate betrayal. just pay up sucker. I have seen several attacks online and elsewhere on robot love and m.b.c. no matter that just about every woman has a handy andy stuffed in her nightstand. i'm amazed the gov isn't required to pay for those as well. we all pay for everything else in these perpetual victim's lives, even their free b.c., among hundreds of their other freebies.
